Registered Charity Number – 1116058

With a Sport, Youth and Heritage focus for the charity in 2009-10, the three charities that will benefit from the lions share of the monies raised through the Mayors fundraising are: -

St Nicholas Church Preservation Trust
www.sncpt.co.uk
St Nicholas Church Preservation Trust comprises people of the town who are interested in maintaining the fabric of the church for future generations. The church is at the centre of the community, is the largest parish church in the country and the oldest building in Great Yarmouth. It now requires substantial repairs to its stone pinnacles and its historic organ.

Mayor Tony Smith’s comments on the St Nicholas Church Preservation Trust
“In my opnion St Nicholas Church is at the heart of the borough of Great Yarmouth.  When anything major ‘good or bad’ happens, the occasion will normally marked by an event that takes place at the St Nicholas Church.  Through my contact with the St Nicholas Church Preservation Trust, I became aware that the building and its organ were in danger of being lost.  As this would be a great loss to the borough, I want to help raise the profile of the preservation trust and support it through additional funds that we raise.”

Mayor Tony Smith’s comments on the Kingfisher Amatuer Boxing Club
“In the autumn of 2008, I became aware of the amazing work that the club do to help and support some of the borough’s more troubled younger members.  It quickly became apparent that the club’s contribution to the community generally went unnoticed.  Getting to see how the work is done through training & competitive bouts by teaching the young members about self respect, discipline and an ability to control temper.  I also got to see that the facilities which the club have are no longer adequate for the numbers that are attending.  I decided to support this excellent club’s facility financially through the fund-raising and more importantly through raising their profile in the public arena.”

Winterton Marine Cadets
www.ts-fearless.org.uk
Our aim is to provide opportunities for young people to develop into responsible, dependable and useful members of society. To promote self discipline and comradeship. To teach the principles of leadership. To help young people achieve their full physical and intellectual potential through the system of military discipline, Royal Marine ethos and adventure training.

Mayor Tony Smith’s comments on the Winterton Marine Cadets
“Similar to the boxing club, the Winterton Marine Cadets offer another style of training and support for the youth of the borough.  Their unconditional support for civic life in the borough should not go unnoticed.  I hope that the support that the Charity can offer helps them to do this for many, many more years to come.”
